Explosives stop play!

>> Wednesday 10 July 2013

Before we left Scotland on Sunday, I could already see that Wednesday, today, was likely to have poor weather. In fact, it hasn't been too bad, a little drizzle in the morning, and an improving picture as the afternoon wore on.

So, we had decided to visit a spa hotel swimming place that we also went to last year, Peurunka, which is situated around 30 minutes north of here.

However, this morning, as we finished our breakfast, we heard from my friend Sari that there was a big problem in the area close to Peurunka, at the town of Laukka, where an explosives plant was possibly going to explode! From the story which is on the YLE Finnish news website, we could see that 2100 local residents had been evacuated, and that there were many road closures.

A quick search on Google found us another spa hotel close to Jyvaskyla, which we decided to visit instead, Spa Hotel Rantasipi. There, we swam, enjoyed five different types of saunas, sat in various jacuzzis and eventually came home totally refreshed!

Now, we're going to enjoy dinner and take a swim in the lake afterwards. There may be photos later...

Another late evening shot, looking the other way.
